DIY Reinforcement on the XLC Zipper

No knock on the XLC, it's really my favorite hammock to date but I've been having some zipper separation issues at the pin & box (start point). Not sure why the design places it so far from the gathered end but it seems like I put too much strain on it and it just pops out quite easily.

I'm sure Brandon would make the issue right but I'm headed out on a trip in a few days and I thought I'd to do a DIY to get me through. As it turned out I happened on what I think is a pretty good solution.

Sacrificing one of my wife's old brassieres, I used a seam ripper to remove set of hook and eyes, you know the ones where the bra joins in the back. Then I hand sewed them into the zipper tape on my XLC just under the box and pin (starting point) to relieve strain on the zipper.

Well it worked so well that I'm not even going to bother Brandon with a return on the hammock. I just figure it's maybe one zipper out of a batch, we've all had a coat or two that the zipper was always popping loose at the bottom and you had to work it like the dickens to get it back to the beginning to undo it. In any case, now I can yank and tug on that thing and it's just solid, even when I sit sideways in the hammock and lean back.

Again, no knock on the XLC, probably just a bad zipper and passing along a mod that might be helpful for some other XLC owners.

Great idea. I have the same issue and thought maybe it was just me. It is a weird spot for the zipper to start/end. I wonder what the rationale was for putting it so far down the hammock? Anyone have an answer? It's my only gripe with this hammock since it makes me worry I'll tear the zipper area when sitting down. If I'm just lounging I take the bugnet almost right off to avoid this problem.

I would guess that the zipper stop moved becuase of the extra length. Once inside it would be difficult to reach all the way to the end to grab the zipper. just a guess

Uh-oh, someone's gonna be in trouble with their better half...

Great idea though, wonder what esle in the 'other' closet that could be useful for hammocking!

Tell me about it! Believe me the irony was not lost while I was tearing apart that bra, all the little do-dads and what-nots, not to mention all the engineering behind it. It occurred to me that the underwire might possibly be the original implementation of the pole mod

    Brilliant !

Not sure if this is an isolated issue or a design concern, either way, great solution.
