How did I miss this report?

I LOVE that area. Every picture brings up memories of past trips. Wonderful pictures. I kept finding myself thinking "Oh! I know that place! Oh, I've been there!"

Liz, we'll have to do a trip sometime. I live just down the hill from there in Colfax.

I wandered around my little campsite, glad that I had skipped the 5 mile group trip to Rock Lake (farther up on Crooked Lakes trail) since my recently recovered (I thought recovered HA!) Achilles's tendon had not yet fully recovered.

If you were having ankle problems that's probably a good idea. There's a hill just out of crooked lakes up to Penner lake. Then, just after Penner, there's a 250 foot climb and 250 foot drop all within half a mile.

I thought of you (in a totally non-creepy way) when I stopped in Colfax for gas.
I've been as far as Penner lake (well, looking down on Penner, anyway) and that's the goal of my next trip (the lake itself) and I remember that stupid hill with all the loose rock and being kind of glad for and kind of resenting the switchbacks at the same time.
