Hey everyone, here in Midlothian we've had some amazing weather this week (for a nice change) and myself and a buddy had the day off work together on Tuesday (4th) so we decided to go for a wee walk...
We left my flat in Loanhead around 8.45am and walked through to roslin chapel, down into Roslin Glen and along the Glen and up into penicuik, into John Clark estate and explored the estate, stopped for lunch then came back the way we came. We both had a fantastic day and the weather was extraordinary, cloudless sky, very gentle breeze and temps were between 68F up to 80F (20-26C). We got back to mine around 7.30pm, it could've been done much quicker but we were in no hurry and enjoyed our breaks e.g. 2.5 hours for lunch and got to play in the water... and GaryY has short legs haha. I also got to try out two new pieces of gear: sawyer squeeze and tato element stove, I love them both already.
There are also loads more photos, if you want to see them all you can have a look Here http://flic.kr/s/aHsjFUWcKt
Here is the rough route we took (2 ways + numerous detours to explore) probably about 25-26 miles.
Castlelaw Hill (Pentland Hills) en route
Roslin Chapel
Supposed Templar Knight Gravestone
Roslin Glen
There was wild garlic EVERYWHERE!!
There are ruins of an old powder mill which is one of my favourite spots when the weather is nice.
On the route map, after the crossing over the A701 road we entered the John Clark Estate, yet more pics.
Loads of tadpoles in the bottom pond in the estate.
We stopped for Lunch and I had my first test of my new tato element stove, no pics 'cos I was having too much fun meanwhile Gary had his first ever lie in a hammock... yep he loved it, I helped him sew his first hammock last night. My first convert he has also joined HF as GaryY
After our llllooonnnggg lunch we were feeling pretty hot so we decided to have a little walk in the river which ended in a brief swim.
Thanks for Looking!
