    Thanks HF Moderators

I know there's occasionally (although not often) someone upset with how the forums here are moderated. I'm definitely not one of them.

I've been visiting and posting more frequently at BackpackingLight.com recently as I continue lightening my pack and evaluate my non-hammock gear for when I have to go to ground occasionally.

While parts of BPL have great content and some great community members, its forums are nowhere near the quality found here.

A simple example - a 21 page thread created in just five days. It's all around a single member's experience with a cottage vendor that spun WAY out of control. While I believe the original post would have been allowed here, the onslaught of ridiculing comments - from both sides of the argument - would certainly not have been. As I read through parts (I couldn't force myself to read through even a quarter of them), I was reminded and saddened of the kind of behaviors folks sometimes exhibit online.

A HUGE thanks to the moderators and rules set forth here. They, and the wonderful members, make this one of the best overall forums on the web (and certainly the best outdoor-related forum).

Definitely one of the appeals to HF - a nice balance of content control without governing good debate and allowance for sarcasm/humor.

I agree that you can't beat HF moderators!!

There are many sites that have great information about a subject, but I'm not willing to wade through all the garbage to find it. I've been at BPL for over 10 years, and in general it stays reasonably civil and there is a wealth of knowledge.

There are a couple of fly fishing forums that are both informative and friendly, and then there are some that should be called hunting forums because of the way they take aim at their target (newbies).

I'm thankful I have not noticed anyone upset on here. I'm a member of a cooking forum and sometimes it gets down right ugly. I really don't get why. It seems dysfunctional to argue on a computer. Most of them have never even met. Kinda reminds me of truck drivers hiding behind cb radios and taking jabs at others.
What ever they are doing here, I agree with ya...it's working. I've enjoyed my stay so far and have learned alot.

    Thanks ya'll

You can, but I'm pretty certain you'd need a REALLY long stick.

HF Mods rock. They have been very helpful to me the few times I needed some assistance. I also appreciate their gentle but firm control of the forum. It is not an easy job- in fact it us usually thankless. Well--- it is thankless no more.
    THANK YOU ALL!

We're a pretty quick bunch... you'd need to be fast or sneaky... oh... and Jeff is well trained.... I think you'd get hit with your own stick..
