Thread: Hey from Idaho

    Hey from Idaho

Just wanted to say hello and thank the HF community for all the great information. I have been lurking on the forum for a bit. I thought it was time I said hello. I hope I can contribute a bit to the forum but I suspect it will be a while given the level of knowledge and experience present.

I am looking to get back into hiking and backpacking but cost has always been an issue. My wife has recently expressed some interest so now is the time to give it a try. There is just no way I could justify spending $700 each at REI to get a setup to go out for a few days. My wife may use everything once and be done. Fixed budget so looking to get started in an affordable way.

So I am looking to make my gear and the comments and advice on this forum have given me some confidence. I am going to start by making a couple of hammocks.

    Thanks again to the community.
    J

Howdy neighbor. Glad to have you aboard. Lots of good DIY info here.

Thanks, I am hoping to try my DIY gear out in your neck of the woods. I hope to get up to Glacier or walk a few miles on the CDT. Beautiful country around there. Of course Idaho has some magnificent hiking opportunities too. -J

I came across the September Idaho hang on the AHE website. I sent in my email to keep updated on it. I hope I can make it. Of course I need to make my hammock and practice some things first. It looks like a fun trip. -J

Welcome to the forums from SC. Making gear is pretty easy and some find it addictive.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

I am planning a trip in south centeral ID in the next few weeks to month. Sort of a mini hang. I will post a trip planning thread here on the forums when I have a date picked.
