    Structural ridge line

I haven't had time to make my structural ridge line and I wanted to try out my DIY hammock so I got a little creative. I went over to my neighborhood home depot and got some of that free white line they use to tie loads down when you buy lumber or something big. I tied an overhand loop on each end. Simple and free. Worked fine for a one time use. I don't think the breaking strength on that white line is that high, but like I said it worked in a pinch. Oh forgot to mention... I weigh about 240 lbs.

Cool! That twine is really strong and light.

It served the purpose. I want to make a fixed length structural ridgeline so it gives me a way to try different lengths. BTW, I probably spent 30 K in my neighborhood home depot in the 25 years I've been shopping there so I didn't feel too bad about asking for some freebie line.

I use amsteel for my structural ridge line. Usually I'm close to the right angles that the ridge line has only a little tension on it, but the other day I set up on trees about 30' apart and that thing was singing like a guitar string.

I've got some amsteel cord waiting to be made into a SRL. BUT Saturday night was the first night in a long time that didn't have a thunderstorm going on. I had an hour or so before dark to come up with something and that's what I came up with. I posted it because it might help someone try different ridgeline lengths.

That's a nice thing about using amsteel. Put a locked bummed on one end and on the other you can do a 1/4 length whoopie to give you a bit of Ridgeline adjustment. I've got about 6" of adjustment available, though now that I've got it dialed in I don't really touch it.

That twine is awesome! Good idea for trying out different lengths on the cheap.
Now that you mention it, that stuff might make some nice really lightweight tarp tie outs.
