Finally got out for a weekend..

So some friends and I have access to a nice 380 acre property. We finally all had a free weekend so we decided to take advantage of the place.

The guy I was riding with had to work a little later than originally planned so I had to set up my hammock in the dark.. all in all, I think I did well. It only took about 5 minutes to get the hammock and tarp up.

I could have centered the tarp a little better but I wasn't horribly concerned about rain. I should have hung it a tad lower too, but again, I set up in 5 minutes in the dark so I could get to the food.

View out the head end of the hammock:

I wake up before everyone due to my work schedule. So I decided to set up the chair and make some coffee.

I decided after this picture to flip my trek poles and it added about 6" of height to the porch mode of the tarp. Also, it got down into the low 50's that first night. The UQ and TQ worked fantastically. I ended up shoving the tq down by my feet before I could manage to fall asleep. It got toasty but I did run into some cold feet problems.. I'll have to work a solution out eventually.

There are some perks to waking up early:

If you look closely at the right side you can see my friends in their tents. This place was so sandy that it probably wasn't too horribly uncomfortable on the ground.

One of my friend decided he was going to try the hammock deal too. He made his own tarp... no stealth camping with this guy I think the hammock was from Woot... I didn't catch the brand.

Was a pretty nice property, the pic doesn't show it well but the water was crystal clear. I guess it was part of an old quarry.

My buddy is incapable of making a reasonable fire (it was about 5' high when he first got it going). This was the highlight of the weekend though, drinking beer around the fire with my friends.

It was definitely a good trip.

Finally got out for a weekend..

Looks like a nice trip. How did your buddy make out in his hammock? Is he going back to ground?

I doubt it. He was pretty happy with his setup. We may have convinced the marmot tent to convert too. We were both pretty happy with the weekend.

Beers around the fire? Doesn't get any better than that!
The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog.

It was pretty nice. The only "problem" was the people that decided 6 am was a good time to talk loudly and slam car doors so they could go fishing.

I'd still like to do some hiking though. This was a great weekend get away.
