    Looking for some snakeskins, Whoopies

    Hey guys,

I got a Hennessy Expedition Asym Zip, was thinking about getting me some snakeskins so it would be easier to manage.

Now, I noticed that some people use them to set up the tarp, hammock together and some do not. So what does everyone do, why?

Also I was looking for some whoopie slings, I'm not really interested in making them myself. Where can I find some, how much will it lighten my load?

I have 2 sets for the hammock and tarp kept separate, tarp set being made of mesh. Lets me tie on my wet tarp onto the outside of my pack. If you kept the asym tarp the hammock comes with one set of snakeskins would probably be easier, whereas I have a separate tarp.

As for whoopies, I often see people point to whoopieslings.com, arrowhead-equipment.com, or buttinasling.com.

I set it up once real quick in the spring and I didn't see any. I didn't set up the tarp though. I'm taking it out this weekend and I'll have a better idea of what exactly I want...possibly, maybe.

I think I'd be worried about tearing my tarp if it was on the outside of my pack like that.

    Thanks for the whoopie links!

Here's a picture of me and my little buddy in the hammock.

Sorry, I may have been unclear. I meant if you are using the tarp that the hammock usually comes with, using one set of snake skins may be easier. Since the asym tarp attaches to the suspension instead of a separate ridgeline.

    i use separate skins

1-set for the hammock & 1-set for the fly(HH SAFARI DELUXE w/ hex fly)

theory behind this is, i can set the fly up & establish a dry/secure site b4 opening bags or setting the hammock

when breaking camp, if dry, skin 1 then the other

if it is wet, i can skin the hammock, bag it & everything else, b4 skinning the fly, keeping my dry environment, until the last minute

packing/securing a wet, skinned fly outside my dry bag keeps everything in the bag dry

btw: i have my hammock & fly suspended from rings, which allows me to quickly/easily remove the suspension systems if they are wet & they would then be secured w/ the wet fly, outside the bag

i am a m/c camper so MY BAG is the equivalent to hiker's back pack, in this case, and the weight of the ss rings is inconsequential

just 1 old man's way of keeping life simple

Even if they both fit in one set of snakeskins, I'd be using 2 so that the wet tarp doesn't have to be packed with the hammock. And chances are that the tarp is going to be wet at least some of the time - either morning dew or rain.

I made mesh snakeskins for the tarp and made one of the outside mesh pockets on my pack specifically to fit the tarp/snakeskin because I fully expect to have to pack it wet sooner or later.

I traded my stock Hennessy explorer deluxe suspension for a set of whoopsies recently. Shaved a pound & change from my set up. Definitely noticed a difference in weight, but more importantly bulk! Much more compact with whoopies!
