    Hello from Utah

The wife came home from a garage sale with a Hammock and stand. I am not too keen on the stand (too much rust). So I am going to set a couple of post. THe plan is 6x6 10 foot post, set in concrete at 3 feet. THe only space i can put them the post will be 17 feet apart. most of my readings say 15 feet. is this too far apart or will i be ok. In doing some reading i just plan on wrapping some webbing to hold it to the post. Thanks

    Welcome from another Utahn.
17' apart will work fine. You will likely want to tie the suspension as high on the post as possible. 15' might be ideal for some, but it's not the only distance that will work.

well i set the two 6x6 10 foot post, in 36 inches hole. holes were 12 inches in diameter at teh ground level i am sure 6 to 8 inchs at teh bottom. They are one inch off center, and 16 feet 9 inches from teh centers. set with 3 baqs of 80lb concrete. I would add about 6 inches and tamp it down solid then repeat. Slightly angled outward with the bubble touching the inner line, plumb the other way. I went through about 10 post to find the ones i liked. these had a couple of knots but no too worried about them. these two were the heaviest and without any major splitting. Ended up 7 feet above teh ground. I am happy with them.

I've hung farther apart than 17 feet. You will be hanging pretty in no time.

Well I set it up with some webbing and carabiners and its off center but it gave me some great information on the permanent setup. doing the math it looks like i can set up at 60 inches above the ground at teh post and it gives me about 16 inches at the lowest point. i think i will do the eyebolt at 72 inches and with 36 inch chain for some adjustments. I have some 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch chain i am thinking of using. the stand that came with the hammock (The Hammock Source) has some beefy s-links.

ANy place where there is an English-Hammock dictionary. I read what some of you guys are saying and I have no clue what you are talking about. Thank you.
