    Pad Questions

So, I'm getting started with hammocking, and for now, I'm trying using a pad. From what I've read, people have trouble getting the pad to stay where you want it.

I'm having the opposite problem, I can't adjust my pad once I'm in, and I'm looking for tips.

I'm currently using the Walmart Ozark Trail Camp Pad (big spender here). My hammock is a diy, using Taslan Nylon. It's as if, together, the two materials have a ton of friction.

Is this a common thing (the pad staying where I don't want it part)?

Not at all. A lot of pad campers would ENVIOUS of your "problem"

If you're familiar with Shug's videos, he has a video on using pads in a hammock.

Another option I am exploring is to put the pad INSIDE the sleeping bag. Always worth a try in the backyard.

Yeah, if only I could get the pad underneath me. I watched the Shug videos, hoping there was a 'trick' to getting it situated, but not so much. Hopefully it's just a matter of practice.

It does take practice. Also try using an SPE, those can help keep the pad under you, and keeping your shoulders warm.

We would be one step closer to world peace, if everyone slept in a hammock..

Thanks, I didn't get to that one (btw, your noob series is amazing, thanks for making it). Guess I gotta just keep at it, and pay close attention to where my butts gonna land.

Good tips from Shug. Two other thoughts. A shorty pad is easier to deal with. You might still want a separate pad for your feet but is will also be about right for a sit pad. Mine is roughly knees to shoulders.

The second issue is try back sleeping even if you are normally a side sleeper. I bet I am not the only person who sleeps on his back in the hammock and his side in bed. ;-)
    YMMV

... or get a Warbonnet RidgeRunner. Pads are absolutely NO problem.
