Hey all !!!!!
We have a new house in a new development and sadly there is no trees. I'm looking to install a Pergola that has 4 poles 15 ft square. My question is, what size posts do I use and how deep should I place them underground? My whole family love to hammock camp and we want to be able to hang with all 5 of us on it. Thats why i'm setting the posts at 15' square.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
The pergola I built uses 6x6's at all four courners maybe over kill, but I was going for a look to match the size of the house. Mine are not set in the ground they are bolted to a concrete slab.
Now that'd be a great pic. A whole family hanging under a pergola.
Just to maintain the visual balance, 6x6 seems to be the size to use. To afford the strength
to safely support those hammocks, 6x6 seems correct as well. Just my opinion, but anything less just won't do.
I've done something similar for just two maybe three of us. 4x6c (we all way less than 160#) on the corners, roughly 4ft deep's with 80+# of concrete per post. I also use 2x6's as cross braces and decorative 1x3's for the roof. Works real well.
Directionally challenged...comicly so.
