How do you set up to quick-deploy a tarp?

Here's the problem: I might need the tarp but I want to see the stars. I have a Superfly tarp and I was wondering how I set it up to quick-deploy it if a T-storm blows in. The only thing I could think of to do was set it up fully, unhook it from the tent stakes on one side, throw it over to the other side, and re-attach it to those tent stakes so it looks like a lean-to.

That, at least, opens up one side. Any ideas other than that?

I seem to remember someone modding a superfly with paracord so that he could open and close s section of the fly above his head from the comfort of his hammock...do a search for it here or YouTube.

You could try doing a continuous ridge line and use prussics at each side. Then slide one end back to halfway. If a storm blows in just slide prussic back tight and adjust tie outs

I don't have it down yet, not sure if I ever will, but by reading the weather and becoming more familiar with patterns, I either go ahead and set up my tarp all the way, or I don't worry about it at all.

I rig the tarp then I roll it back up in the snake skins. If I feel rain drops, I unfurl the tarp and hook the guy lines to the preset stakes in the ground. I can do this in a minute or two. Trick is being able to locate stakes in the ground at night. I use reflective/marking tape that I can see pretty quickly.

Snakeskins or Velcro cable ties allow one to set up the tarp above the hammock and keep it rolled, ready to deploy in seconds should the heavens open up. It's how I maintain piece of mind down here, where the weather can vary based on which side of the street you're on.

    Hope it helps!

This is probably the best advice.

Its always a gamble to see the stars and avoid late night rain. If it does start to rain/snow, you gotta get up, usually get wet re-staking things, then hop back into bed.

Skins are what I use. Work for quick deployment in rain, wind and great for storage for sun protection on the tarp when not in use. Hammock is also covered with a mozzie net/slug type sleeve similar to a Buginator.
The tarp in its skins stuff into the outside of my pack, the complete hammock set up goes into a compression sack, then into the pack.
To unpack, I just hang the line ends/straps and hang. Setting up camp takes only a few minutes.

You could use really long guy lines and run them from the snakeskins to the stakes all slack like with a tensioner or somewhat on the stake and quickly just pull all your guys tight
