This is a great thread to read.. I am 5'4" 133 pounds and have the same leg problem. I have gathered end hammock made by my wife to my specs, and it works alright, but my next project for her is a bridge. I have watched the making of the grizz bridge multiple times, but I am not completely sure of the measurements. Can't wait to see what you end up with.

Did you say inmate? Are my services needed here?

Good luck in your trials. I'd hate to see you leave the glorious loftyness for cold hard ground.

The bridge hammocks seem to be the real deal for many in your position, as well as the longer, wider hammys.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

    About To Give It Up

Like it was said above, try a bridge hammock before you throw in the towel..

Once I switched to the XLC, not only did I forget about shoulder squeeze, and calf ridge, I learned how to sleep on my side and on my stomach in a gathered end! 6 foot 240 lbs. Tried a bridge and found it to be the most uncomfortable hammock for me.

I have had similar problems with pressure on the legs. Difficult to explain. Oddly enough, it was caused by not expanding the fabric properly. Even though I was on a diagonal the hammock felt short and cramped. It turns out the center was bunched up. On my last trip I couldn't get comfortable the first night. I was thinking about getting an 11 ft hammock. The second night I shifted the material under my butt outwards and it was so much more comfortable. Not sure if you have tried this or not. Have someone pull the sides outwards after you get in to see if it makes a difference. Nothing but bugs, snakes and water on the ground

I would really suggest trying a bridge hammock a try. It's an entirely different lay. I spent many nights in my DIY gathered end hammocks, (which certainly don't compare with a WBBB) and always wake up several time throughout the night to make "adjustments." And when you're waking up 5-6 times a night, you aren't getting a restful sleep. But the first night I slept in my bridge hammock, I woke up only once... and that was to use the little boy's pee bottle. (Yeah... it was COLD!)
I make gear... lots and lots of gear.
