ENO Indoor Hanging Kit in basement?

Has anyone ever mounted an ENO Indoor Hanging Kit from their basement joists (overhead) in order to enjoy hammocking through the winter?

    https://www.eaglesnestoutfittersinc....uct/HK001.html

If so, 1) how did it work, and 2) did you hang it on the underside of the joist (which I imagine to be too thin/narrow to be safe) or on one side? Their installation instructions only mention using upright studs, not horizontal overhead joists. Our house is from the mid-1980s in New England, so not made of tissue paper but also not a castle. :7) SHould I just drill through the joists and pass through a continuous loop of Amsteel to clip in to?

Many thanks for any firsthand experiences or suggestions from the cheap seats!

I must admit that another search (after I posted, natch) comes up with this very informative thread -- including pictures!

You might have some migration of the Amsteel through the wood. I did when I tried this. The wood grain is just not very dense (our home is 70s construction).

I plan on drilling two new holes 1/2 inch and inserting some 1/2in schedule 40 PVC pipe to protect the wood.

So the PVC would act as a sleeve? Very smart. Careful of any sharp edges on it cutting the Amsteel, though, I would think.

I was wondering if the wood's edges would cut the Amsteel -- never thought of the reverse happening!

Would 1" webbing be more resistant to abrasion than 7/64" Amsteel?

(Duh, obviously!) I mean, would it also be vulnerable to that same abuse?

Not sure. I'm sure the webbing would spread the load more than Amsteel but might not be enough to stop the compression of the wood.

I agree the pvc should have any sharp edges sanded down. Might need glued in place as well. When I get it installed ill be sure to post the results.
