Spent last weekend out that way and bugs were minimal. Did not need any repellant in the evening.Of course that can change but western MD never seems to be bad. There are bears, skunks and racoons that will be more than happy to eat your food.Tie it up.

I actually will be going to a dinner Friday evening, so I won't need to have food with me. Though I will have some stuff in the car for breakfast, and I'll be grabbing a bite at the start line of the ride.

As for test sleeping, I live in Washington DC, so I'm not so sure I want to do a trial run over night with the noise and whatnot. I've fallen asleep several times in the hammock, so I'm sure I won't have much difficulty with that.

It was a great success! I got a great night's sleep in the hammock, and woke up ready to conquer the challenging ride I had planned. Now I'm hooked, and I cannot wait for my next opportunity for another over nighter.

+10000. This is a very sound suggestion. I would highly recommend a few nights in the back yard to insure you have your equipment correctly adjusted and that you are comfortable in your set up. It may make for a miserable few nights if you are already tired from the ride and have any difficulty in getting everything set up for a comfortable night's sleep.
