    Art Loeb weather in July

Some friends and I are planning an Art Loeb trip July 4th. I am keeping an eye on the weather, but the reporgs I am lookimg at are from lower elevations in the area. What can we expect to see as far as temps during the day and night up at the higher elevations? I am trying to decide on clothes for the trip.

    Thanks

I did a five day loop on Art Loeb last summer in August. It was mostly hot, but it poured rain for two days. Good rain gear is an absolute necessity. Pack some thermal layers, too. It can be VERY windy on the summits.

I will be ahead of you, heading northbound on the 28th and will yo-yo back southbound. No schedule so I may cross your path. I have found out I don't have to be home until the 7th, so I may wander a bit more. That's a very popular trail, so I would like to be off of it by the 4th. Trying to find another less popular trail for the holiday weekend.

Re: Art Loeb weather in July

Thanks guys. Got similar responses over on White Blaze. Gonna plan for warm days, but be prepared for a cooler evening just in case. Sounds like afternoon showers may be likely for sure, so gotta be prepared anyway. Appreciate the responses.

    Did you make the trip?

Mine was a disaster, 9 days of rain, yep. forgotten boots, new boots and blisters, 2 days laying up, second attempt in trail runners, 6 hours out rolled an ankle, 4 days of laying up, finished with a night at the Sheraton in Asheville. My debit card got blocked because someone was trying to use a duplicate in TX, A ten hour drive home that took 14, car problems....disaster.

But, I still had a great time and would do it all over again, just differently!

Wow Swankfly. Sorry to hear, sounds like quite the disaster.
I can attest to the rains - they are daily here in Charlotte.

We decided to reschedule due to the rain, so we are looking at possibly a November trip now. As a consolation, we did a day hike up on the Pinhoti instead. We THOUGHT we might get away with a light sprinkling and make it a half-way decent hike....well, the hike was fine...but we got soaked.
