Beautiful photos, thanks for sharing. I sure would like to make it to the south island someday to check it out, the north was stunning, and the hut's are unquestionably handy....Loves me some New Zealand!

Y'know, the thing I was most paranoid about was a possum landing on the 'roof' at night and shredding my nice new tarp with its claws! Although I saw a few in the trees, none came close... guess they didn't know what to make of me either

NZ has a real problem with the pest didymo in our waterways and kauri dieback disease up north, so yeah everyone's pretty vigilant about boot cleaning as that's how these things spread. Advantage of being an island, you can exercise some tight border control to keep out unwanted environmental nasties. Shame no-one did that when possums were brought in, or gorse!

We travelled for 6 months around Australia about 6 months ago, and the possums loved jumping on the roof of our camper trailer tent, scared the hell out us the first time. We also had a goanna climb up the walls of our camper.
