Is anybody familiar with the Allagash Wilderness Waterway? How is it for hanging? Or, should I bring a tent?

Maine has lots of trees so you will have no problem on the Allagash or just about anywhere else in Maine.

The route is through land managed for forest products. As I recall they leave a barrier strip along the waterways thus trees should not be an issue.
YMMV

Have a good time My Friend.
Black flies won't be bad in August, but the noseeums will be. Make sure your bugnet is the right size. I brought a hammock a couple years ago and didn't have any trouble finding a place to set up - the tenters in the group had more issues with tree roots. I'll be going this year in July too.
Not all who wander are lost - sometimes we're just looking.
