Has anyone here used mountain climbing devices to hang a hammock? You know, the things they jam into cracks and tie a rope to? Will those work for hanging a hammock in the west in open spaces devoid of trees? Can ya just attach a tree strap to em?

I think that would work. You could hook a carabiner in and loop the webbing through it carabiner.
