Tyvek, with rocks to keep it in place. I will be changing my foot mat, because my Medical Altert Dog, now wants to sleep under my hammock (a complete change, from I want to guard the car!). Maybe, I will make my foot mat a little smaller and sew flannel or something absorbent but light onto the tyvek. My dog will get too warm on just the tyvek, plus she is a bit on the large side, so I need to be very careful about size in whatever I decide. She will not like carrying something very large. Decisions, Decisions.
Now that the weather is warmer my dog likes to come along on trips. A cheap nylon 5 X 7 tarp gives him a nice place to lay and a storage and mat area for me.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

"But hey, 2 trees anywhere is a bedroom waiting to happen, right?"
I have a 55gal drum liner (slit down the sides) that I used as a ground cloth for years when I was a tarp camper. Now that I'm in the hammock I cut it in half and use it for keeping my stuff off the ground.
A compactor bag is plenty big for me.
I had all the various ditty bags from the backpack paid out on it beside my hammock in Grayson like a surgeon's tools ready to go.
Before going to bed, I toss them all inside, twist the top and fold it under so if it should happen to rain in my sleep, I know everything is safe in the bag.
Some to think of it, if one had a draw string on the bottom and top, a rain skirt might work for this.
I'm planning to use a piece of tyvek as well on my next trip. Not sure how big to cut it? I want it to be large enough mat under my hammock to store my gear and boots. I plan to put gromets on each corner. What do you all suggest for pegs, best lightweight option or should I just use rocks. Decisions, decisions!
I use a tyvek channel end under hammock to store gear. It's amazing. Doubles as a ground cloth if I go to ground. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1371869959.467415.jpg

At the moment I just use a doubled piece of painting foil. When it gets a hole I just put some tape on it. I also use it as a picknick blanket for breaks when I am too lazy to hang up the hammock and for going to ground in case I need to.
Plastic sheet here, 3x4 ft. It sits atop my pack for quick deployment. Use it to sit on, throw it on the ground, dump gear on it. If the dropcloth is on the ground with gear on it, it wont blow away. Its cheap enough to toss after a year and make another. I've kept the one I have now cuz its got character.
Another option for winter camping is a ccf pad (sized to your liking) The ccf insulates your feet while standing, changing clothes, going wee in the a.m.
It is a necessity for my winter pack.
The ccf can also be used in the hammock if temps dip lower than expected.
