Smile Hello from the MS Gulf Coast

    Hello from Gulfport MS!

I have enjoyed reading your posts for several months now and have learned a lot from them. I hope to eventually contribute information, but am still a newbie hanger.

I love hiking! During the cooler weekends in south MS (usually Oct. - Apr.), you can usually find me in Desota National Forest on the Black Creek Trail or the Tuxachanie Trail (hence....Tuxhiker). Black Creek is a great place to hike, paddle, and hang (but not in the summer). In the winter it is usually warm enough to wear shorts.

I hope to get to GA this summer and spend a few weeks on the AT. Last summer I hiked in Shenandoah for a short time.

I ordered my first Amsteel Blue to make whoopie slings after reading your posts and watching HF videos. Thanks everyone for the knowledge you've shared!

Welcome from Gautier. Yes Black Creek is also my favorite spot. I’ve drifted it from Brooklyn to 57 a few times. I always make a point of spending a night at the sandbar where the trail cuts down to.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

Drifter.... I think the sandbar you mentioned is in the Red Hills section of the trail. That is my favorite section to hike because the hills help prepare me for hiking in the mountains.

    Drifter,

Glad to know that I can find Amsteel locally. My shipping cost fron Reddin was about $7.

I have been up half the night making my 1st WS. The next one will be easy (hopefully) now that I understand them. I had to modify the instructions to accommodate my Hennesey tarp.

    Thanks for the info.

    T.H.
