The MacCat Ultra I bought from Animal Control just arrived!
This thing is HUGE!
I seldom camp at Lake Jocassee that I don't get an afternoon thunderstorm.
Bring it on!

Fantastic tarp there! I love mine.

I was wondering, why does the ultra cost more when the deluxe is bigger, in square feet terms anyway....

6 ties = more wind protection
I didn't realize the Deluxe was wider then an Ultra. I like the extra ridgeline length of the Ultra. I wish they both had an extra pullout in the center of the sides, for wind. When I get settled in for the night and realize the wind is going to bow the tarp in and contact my hammock, the last thing I want to do is get back out of bed and readjust the tarp. I'm lazy I guess. Someday, I'm going to talk Brian into making me a diamond tarp, because I'm lazy about tie outs. It wouldn't be a MacCat, but as Cannibal says, his tarp making skills kick butt!
It also has 8 catcuts as apposed to 6 which is even more labor. BTW I just looked at the 15'x12' cat cut. Dear god more cat cuts and tieouts than you could shake a whole tree worth of sticks at Also btw, unless you want a very massive diamond tarp, your going to get pretty crappy wind coverage with a diamond tarp. Thats what I'm using right now and I just went through a freak wind storm in it last weekend and it wasn't doing great at blocking the wind. More importantly though in strong gusts having 2 tieouts a side instead of 1 is going to make you much less prone to slingshotting stakes in the middle of the night. I had to tuck the headwind part of my tarp under me that night. It was like half tarp half topcover at that point.
I can't decide whether to get the deluxe or ultra for the AT.
Maybe getting a deluxe and carrying an extra peak would be the best choice?
Does anyone know anyone who makes peaks that work with the deluxe, or would i have to make one?
