    Washing spinn to reduce noise?

I just picked up a spinn tarp from MLD and was wondering if I could put it in the washing machine and soften it up like tyvek? It's some pretty noisy stuff. I've read that it will soften up over time but I was hoping to speed up the process. Obviously I don't want to do anything that would damage the tarp, so I thought maybe running it on delicate cycle might be ok.

    Thoughts?

I believe spinn is siliconized. Washing it doesn't sound advisable.

Not all who wonder are lost...But I'm probably just lost.

Tennis ball treatment in the dryer? Seems that would simulate a lot of usage.

I wouldn't do that either to a siliconized tarp. Tyvek, spinntex and Cuben fiber are all considered noisy tarps by some people. Only Tyvek can be quieted by washing without impacting the fabric.

All three fabrics weigh less than silnylon, which is why people like them. But if the noise bothers you, you should probably stick to silnylon.

About to build my first siliconized tarp and wondering what the tennis ball treatment would do to hurt it? Since you put it in with no heat. I could see the heat leaching the silicon out.

Thanks in advance for the education.

My question is: what would it do to help it? Silnylon isn't known be noisy, so what do you hope to accomplish?

The original post was that the spinn tarp was noisy and was wondering about using machine to simulate lots of use. Your response to idea of using tennis ball treatment to simulate that use was that you wouldn't do that to any siliconized tarp.
