NY Catskills Devils Kitchen overnight 29-30 June

Well Summer vacation is here and before Russ and I set off for a week on the NPT we will set up a friendly get together hang at the devils kitchen on the devils path. Please respond if interested but no worries.. we go regardless cause it cuts our trip to the Adirondacks to fewer car miles. Enjoy and hope to see you there.. Peace love and Woodstock!

How to get to Devil’s Kitchen Hang in Catskill Mountains.

Get off Interstate 87 at Exit 20- At Saugerties

Go thru toll booth to red light.

In front of you should be a McDonalds

Turn left onto Route 212 and go over Interstate 87

Turn Right onto NY-32 N and pass the entrance to Interstate 87 South

Continue onto NY 32 N and bear left New York 32A N to Palenville, NY

At Palenville, NY you come to a light, bear left and continue onto New York 23A W

Follow road out of town, up hill and past Katterskills Falls and thru the town of Haines Falls

Go into Tanenrville, NY and stay on Main Street

Proceed to traffic light in middle of town and turn left onto Co Rd 16

Continue onto Co Rd 16 (Railroad and Spruce Streets) Continue down road.

At sharp turn on road turn left staying onto Co Rd 16 (Platte Clove Rd).

Go down road passing houses and farms. Be sure to pass a “BEAR CAUTION” sign. Look

for the trail head sign for Prediger Trail Head . This the trail head to the 1.9 mile hike

into Devil’s Kitchen.Turn right onto Prediger Rd

At the end of the road there is a house and Prediger Rd turns slightly right and becomes Prediger Trail Head Road- Park the car. Sign in and follow the trail to the intersection and turn onto the RED TRAIL going left.

If you want to take the short trail hike to Devil’s Kitchen then continue down CR 16 to where the road is closed off. There is a parking trail head on the left. Park there and follow road back to where it crosses over some small stream and there should be a sign and a blue trail markers. Just keep going straight.

Would love to but my post-op knee is not up to hiking, much-less backpacking right now. Have a great trip!

I believe it's only a mile in there, heck I'll bring my pack in, come back out and piggy back you in there.

that's a generous offer but i have a bad habit of overdoing things and then paying the price later. Would love to join you guys but I need a good two or three more weeks of rehab. I will keep my eye on this forum for the next opportunity. Have a great trip!

Ouch! I've got 2 shows Saturday, wish I could play hooky! Timing is just a little bit off, because the run ends on Sunday.

Have fun, and enjoy that Adirondack Piney Goodness!

    JerzyBears and all,

I am a volunteer for this project. BUT . . . it is not clear if it is happening.
Lack of volunteers on new date.

Rebuilding Long Path Bridge over Plattekill Creek
    Project date: Saturday, June 29, 2013 - 10:00am - 4:00pm
(Was on the 8th but due to weather we have postponed until June 29th)

Project/Trail Location: Long Path, Platte Clove Preserve

As a crow flies it is very close to your location. It would be good to overnight with you.

You are there Saturday Night June29, and Sunday night 30 but not Friday night? Is that correct ?

Builders expect to be working late, much later than 4pm.
Looks like I can hike from the bridge site to the shelter / Devil's Kitchen by the Long Path. Are you familiar with that section of the trail ?

    Berksound,

I was thinking about you when I went out to the van to get the NY-NJ Trail Conference map #141 and look up the two trails.

By the time I had figured it out you had responded.
