Simple no-sew adjustable footbox mod for gathered end hammocks

Before I begin, I need to give Mat from UK Hammocks and Sgt. Rock a lot credit because I borrowed ideas from the Woodsman X hammock and the cuban fiber hammock to make this mod to my cheap diy tablecloth hammock.

To start, I used a small zip tie to make a small bung of fabric a little less than half way down the hammock on the "right" side. I then made a prusik loop to connect the line going to the end of the hammock and lark's head around the cloth bung. For the end of the line that attaches to the end of the hammock, I just tied a simple loop knot and slid it down the whoopie sling. Check out the pics that I've attached to see what I mean.

I did a 15 minute test hang and it worked great with a nice footbox. It was extremely comfortable while laying on my side.

    Positives
-I really like the fact that I can adjust the footbox with the prusik knot.
-I can easily do this for both the right and left side of the hammock if I want.

    Negatives/Concerns
-This mod takes away fair amount of the view from on the footbox side.
-I may reinforce the cloth bung with a necklace bead or a small pebble to make sure it doesn't slide in place.
-I'm not sure about the strength of the taffeta fabric. Could the bung rip off under heavy and/or extended stress?

Please let me know if you have any questions or additional ideas/comments.

    Thanks,

    Tuck

That's fantastic! Simple idea, nondestructive as well. I like it and I'm glad to hear it works well. The only issue I see with it is entering and exiting becomes pretty exclusive to one side of the hammock, it seems. I'm not sure. Does it interfere with anything else? I'm going to have to try this! Thanks for the pics.

It does make entering the hammock one-dimensional, but I usually enter from the "left" side of the hammock anyway. So, not a big concern.

Other than the side view, I didn't notice it interfering with anything else. I need to do some more testing though. I need to put my "fronkey" style bug net on to see if it interferes with it.

That is a cool idea. I'm gonna have to try that out. I've never tried out a footbox.
