    Evil Hammocks

So I have been doing a lot of research on hammocks in general (with the help of this site) and I had read somewhere about spreader bar style and rope style hammocks being evil and some sort of manufacturer's prank (wish I could find that article) and I was wondering...

The traditional hammock that is sold at every store in America is a fabric or rope hammock with spreader bars. I have past experience with these hammocks as I have a friend or two that have them in there backyards (most of them have been abandoned as there are not very comfortable or stable especially the rope ones). SOOOooo what's the deal, if a gathered end hammock is so much more comfortable and stable why are the ones with spreader bars so popular? Why aren't gathered end hammocks sold almost everywhere? Is it because this fad of spreader bar and rope hammocks has ruined the hammocks reputation or are you HF guys just keeping it a secret?

I have no idea why the American-style of hammock continues to define the word "hammock" for so many people. Kind of embarrassing, honestly.
    Trust nobody!

Because most people do not know any better and when they see our high tech hammocks they can not believe they are more comfortable.

When telling non-hangers that I build hammocks, I always feel the need to add
"and No, not the kind you see kids playing with on the back porch".

My goofy conspiracy theory is that mattress manufacturers have kept the "flipping hammock made of uncomfy netting" idea alive to prevent folks from finding out about comfy Brazilian, Mayan etc gathered end hammocks as well as comfy Bridge hammocks.

Imagine if every house came with preinstalled hammock hooks on the wall (like many homes in central and south America)! The space! The comfort!

I have a few friends who probably wonder if I ever tell the truth, since they saw my hammock and after I told them how comfy it was. Most have no desire to even try it out. Yep, that spreader bar thing is all they want to know.

I have had my family try out my hammock and they love it, I have converted a few of my friends, and I hope to spread the comfort more and more as people ask me about my hammock. Not that terrible American deathtrap design
I may be dumb, but at least I'm ugly!

I've done so much, with so little, for so long, now I can do anything with nothing.

It's not peer pressure, it's just your turn.

    Early Conclusions:

Possible conspiracy by the mattress folks

The government makes them, (who else would keep throwing money at a failing project).

    Any more ideas??
