I like not having to go inside of a tent. I still feel like I'm outside even with a bug net. I also like watching the skeeter die when they land on my permethrin treated bugnet ...b@$+@rd$!

I really enjoy the sounds of the forest, especially a nice stream it's great to listen to while laying in the hammock, and its always fun setting up the hammock and tarp trying to get it just right, I'm pretty new so it's still a learning process,

At the moment I'm confined pretty much to car camping. So two times a year I go to a couple of group hangs here in SC. I always look forward to that first sight of an old friend or two. I try to get there as early as possible so I can enjoy greeting as many of them as I can. They show up, oddly enough, normally in groups of two or so. This even seems to happen when they show up separately. They trickle in most of the day until around dark when most have shown up and gotten their hang set up. My absolute favorite part of these hangs is sitting around a blazing campfire and listening to the stories and the laughter. I see people gathered together who would normally have never met each other. Their hearts full of happiness and warmth for their fellow hangers. It's almost like a family at Thanksgiving, without all of the fighting. Fall is coming, so is the Fall Sprawl at Santee State Park. Rev will be there, MB too. Cowboy will shuffle in, doing as cowboys do. Junebug, and Baja, Gladius and Paul. Members of my hanging family, truly loved ones, one and all.

I can only afford to live free.
Anything else cost far too much.
Not being at work. Hanging with friends. Everything else is a bonus.

As many others have mentioned, there are a multitude of reasons that
I like hammock camping.
1) I don't have to worry about damaging the ground - I hate to see a beautiful
pasture destroyed by a ground cover.
2) I can set up camp in much more locations - covert camping is much easier
3) I love being outside to hear the sounds and smell the smells. I am much
more connected to outside when I am in a hammock.
But, the biggest thing that I like about being in a hammock????
I absolutely hate trying to get dirt and blown sand out of the tent.
This NEVER gets out completely, and always bugs me. If I get my
hammock sandy, I just tip it over and shake it out. Much easier!
I guess what I am saying:
