I understand the advantages to pads and UQ's but for lighter smaller and cheapee summer weather
I was wondering what else people use?
I am looking for something with the least bulk

really nice weather!!! then u just need the ol hammock
Above 70 degrees not much. Maybe a PLUQ. Ponch Liner Under Quilt.
Very easy to make. There are directions for both sew and no sew versions, here in the DIY section, I think. Some you can even add or remove addition layers of Climashield to adjust temp range slightly.
Bulk and eventually weight, depending on how many, if any, layers of additional insulation are used, can be the downside.
Much less confining than most socks for warm weather.

I've got a couple of Neat Sheet UQ-type things I made when I was hanging in Florida. They don't offer any insulation to speak of, but they do keep the wind off and are breathable. Smaller and lighter, not so much but they do fold down pretty well and are easy to wedge somewhere in the pack.
Trust nobody!
Somewhere between 70-75ºF is where most people stop needing any real insulation to speak of. If the wind picks up you might want something to block it. If you sleep in mostly bare skin you might want something to cover up with, especially in the very early morning.
I have had success with the Dri Ducks poncho weather shield mod from JRB, vented fully and a silk bag liner made into a TQ. That is with swin trunks, a tank top, and socks on. It does make for a light pack, but I just don't enjoy myself as much when the temps are much higher. I'd rather carry more weight on a cooler day than less weight on a hot one; call me deranged.

Just keep in mind that it will depend a lot on where you are and what the weather might be that you should plan for. Here in Idaho I always plan for 3 season weather in the mountains....3 seasons here include the chance for snow accumulation over night. I have gone to bed with it being 60 degrees and woken up in the morning with 3 inches of fresh snow. It was all gone by 9am with temps climbing back into the 80's during the day. Keep in mind that this is at 9000' so 50-60 degree temp swings are not unusual. Plan for where you are and what is an option where you are. You can vent a 3 season quilt but you can't easily add insulation at 3 am if you don't have it.
My 2 cents skewed with perspective of where I live and hike.

I have some realllly thin pad. pm me if interested.
A single layer poncho fabric, cut down to a small uq can pack pretty tight.
Summer down uq can get pretty small too.
A rain poncho can be rigged to act as a uq. Also some clothing can be stuffed into the poncho to ward any slight chill.
..Neat sheet...really cannibal?? some days you amaze me.
that's an oldie.

As has been said previously, not much is needed except for someway to stop the wind either under the hammock or under your body. The ambient temps are not the problem, but convection from the wind passing under the hammy pulling the heat out of the hammock body and inturn cooling you, may be a little too cool in the wee morning hours. It happened to me a few weeks ago at ~73*.
In Florida, we will be going to a group hang on July 19-23, appropriately for this thread, called "The no underquilt hang". Here is the link, https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=74126. This may give you some help on how we do it hear in the heat.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
