    small tear

Hey guys,,,,I noticed I have a small tear in my BIAS hammock....I know it is a "rip Stop" but should I just sew up the hole?....about the size of a quarter.

    Thanks

Do not count on the ripstop to keep the tear from growing to failure mode. Ripstop was designed for garments and protection from briars, not for weight bearing purposes.

I would suggest you get in touch with BIAS and ask how they would repair the hammock. There are new adhesives that stretch but maintain strength. Plus you might find stitching a patch to be a better option. Send a pic of the damage when you inquire. It makes a difference if it is straight clean slice or an open hole.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

That happened to my Weight Weenie Micro in a critical spot. I talked to BIAS but never got the warm fuzzy in my own head that patching was a smart idea, so I just got a new WWM. I didn't feel like becoming an expert on patching hammocks.

I like the light weight of the 1.1 oz fabric, but if durability is a concern, maybe a heavier fabric would be in order.

Get some of this stuff. http://www.beaconadhesives.com/cgfab.html

Cut two patches using the same type of material you're patching. Use pinking scissors to cut the patch if you can.
Put a light coat of Fabri-Tac on both the tear and the patch. Apply patch on both sides of the tear and slight pressure. Wait about an hour than stitch patch around the outside edges with a zigzag stitch, if possible. If not, just use a straight stitch. Seal the threads with a stitch sealer after if you want. Some glue may seep thru the nylon but it is what it is.
    P.S. They sell it at Wal*Mart. $7.00
