Using a Figure 9 Rope Tightener

I'm new to hanging. I'm expecting my first hammock next week.

I saw a Figure 9 Rope Tightener at Harbor Freight and was wondering if they're good for hanging your hammock.

figure nines are great for tarp setups, but i wouldnt trust them for holding me up in my hammock. they are not rated for such things. cinch buckles or whoopies are your best bet, check out dutchwaregear.com or whoopieslings.com for hammock suspensions.

I would use it for a tarp, but not a hammock. I don't think it is made to hold the kind of weight a loaded hammock would put on it. Most people use whoopie slings made from amsteel line and/or polyester straps. What kind of hammock are you getting?

Ditto, great for tarps , not for hammocks. I use them with some of my tarps.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

This guy thought Figure 9s and paracord was the bee's knees for hammock suspension, so it's been done. I just don't think it's advisable with a 150 lb. weight rating.

    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...light=paracord

Check out Nite-Ize' comments on the Figure 9 rope tensioner:

"Warning: Not for use where disengagement could result in bodily injury or property damage. Not for climbing. Manufacturer is not responsible for loss, injury, or damage due to improper use of product. Inspect product and rope prior to use. DO NOT EXCEED stated load limit (150 lb. / 67.5kg) of product or rope, whichever is less. Manufacturer makes no guarantees concerning line, rope or cord not contained in this packaging. Avoid sharp edges, hot or abrasive surfaces, and shifting loads."

That tells me Figure 9s are not good for hammock suspension.

figure 9s are great for setting up tarps but I wouldn't use it for hanging up a hammock.

Figure 9 would be great for hammock suspension, as long as using properly rated materials.

Aren't people hanging on whoopie hooks? Mini titanium hooks?

Like I said, that'd rock for hammock with the properly rated figure 9.

I use a nite-ize for my tarp, would not hang from ANY biner not climbing rated.

Dutch's titanium whoopie hooks are rated for 1000 lbs. I still don't think even a 1000 lb. rated Figure 9 woulld be ideal because the Figure 9 would really be hard on the rope with those teeth.
