Noob: Question about Continuous Ridge Lines

    Hey guys,

I am getting a Warbonnet Super Fly. I think I want to use a Continuous Ridge Line (at least at first). I live in MA and will most likely camp in the area and surrounding states only.

So to my question, how long should I make it? I think 50' is too long, but 25’ doesn’t seem right either (but once again, Noob).

    Thanks, Pete

Well, I can't speak to the Superfly specifically, but I do have the Mamajamba. I use separate tie-outs (as warbonnetguy recommends) but for a CRL, I'd go anywhere between 30' and 40' to be safe.

I'd also set the ridgeline over the tarp, not under, as the superfly has a slight cat cut along the top ridge to help keep it taut. Running the RL underneath will impede the way it is designed to work, I think.

I like the illustration Dejoha put up in a sticky in this forum, it's worth checking out.

For a CRL though, I'd say over the tarp, and maybe use the prusik loop method for tensioning at each end?

50" = fifty inches, 25' = twenty-five feet. Not sure that's what you meant. I figure eleven feet for on top of the tarp, than depends on how large and how far apart the trees you attach to are. You have to go around the trees and back to the tarp on both sides. I think you'd need about forty feet or so of line. Personally, I think it's adding a lot of complicated weight to just attaching to the ends of the tarp.

I usually camp where trees are few and far between so a 50' line gives me some play. One can always take up slack but try adding to the length of anything.

Ordered another piece of Dutchware to make it easier to change from one pitch option to another.

Thirty-five feet has worked well for me. I found thirty feet was too short.

tailor the length for where you are going to be hanging, for me i don't use a continuous ridgeline, just lines off both ends of the ridgeline and they are 15' each + the tarp ridgeline length gives me 41' total and that has always worked for the area i hang in

When I used to use a continuous ridgeline I used one a little over 30 feet. I always have spare cordage if I needed a little extra.

Yep.... I rekon it depends where you are.. No shortage of trees here either... 30ft. is more than enough for me..

How long is your hammock + hammock suspension.

If you have 50 feet of tarp ridgeline cordage but you only have 40 feet of hammock suspension and hammock length, you can hang your tarp but not your hammock .

I use a CRL for my Superfly and use 30 feet of tarp ridgeline cordage plus have some extender cordage in my stake bag (a few 5-10 foot lines of Zing-It). I have only needed to use the extenders once or twice (I also have hammock suspension extenders too so I guess it really depends on what you're comfortable with as I end up carrying the extra cordage somewhere whether its hanging off the tarp or hanked in my stake bag).

    Thanks guys.

Not sure which way I will go CRL or GL at each end. Will look on youtube to see what the options look like.

Also, are there any videos showing the different configurations for the WSF?
