So I stumbled upon "hangin" quite by accident. My boyfriend and I did an awesome backpacking trip in late feb early march through the Grand Canyon, R2R2R. On the last night in Bright Angel we ran into a group of 4 or 5? guys with hammocks. The one name I remember was "Tewa". Anyway they convinced me to try it out their DIY hammock gear and it took everything out of me to get out of it. I thought it was a novel idea, using a hammock, but didn't put too much more thought into it. About 2 weeks after we got back a friend of ours was telling us about his hammock and then REI had the Eno double nest on sale and I bought it on a whim.
We decided to test it out in the Smokies in mid June this summer. My brother used it first and loved it despite the cold. I bought just the hammock, no rain fly, no underquilt, no special "slap" straps. The next night we wound up sharing a campsite with "Roche" and "Hangin" who told me about this forum. On that same trip my boyfriend and I tried it, together, with a thermarest pad and he is now hooked as well. He is determined to share hammock. We'll see on that one. First I need to acquire more than just the hammock to truely test it.
But long story short I really know nothing about this world of hangin'. I'd like to know more. And I love the idea of making your own gear.... so I'm going to start with the Rain Fly.
