    determine best length for hammock

I'm still learning about hammocks and haven't been in enough of them to know what length works best for me. Perhaps there are some formulas out there to figure a theoretical best length to construct my hammock from? I thought I saw one that was my height + 4' + 3" ? I'm 6'4" 230#, I was thinking something like 10.5-11'? Interested to hear what others think.

I don't know of any formulas on hammock length but Warbonnet states the standard 10' blackbird is comfortable to 6'8". Recently there have been a few 11' hammocks introduced and seem to be pretty popular. I'm 5'8" and am happy in a 10' hammock. If I were 6'4" I would definitely look into an 11' model and compare the two sizes. Keep in mind your tarp ridgeline length may need to be a little longer to maintain adequate coverage from the elements...Bush

Said everything I was going to say. I'd suggest going with 11'. Overall, the longer hammocks tend to elimnate the calf ridge pressure associated with gathered end hammocks. It's also the maximum length you can go to stay practical for back country use IMO.

Randy at Dream Hammocks has a great explanation of what length hammock to get.

I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."
