    Sewing machine issues

My wife said I could use her Pfaff 1222, finally... I've been using our old Singer

But the Pfaff has gotten stuck in reverse. It has done this before and when my wife took it to the shop, they said it wasn't and it work fine. This has happened twice.

I played with the it rotating the balance wheel back and forth and got it to run forward, but then as soon as I did a reverse stitch it got stuck again... no luck now getting to go forward again.

    Any suggestions or ideas?

Had planned on doing a couple project while the weather had me inside the next couple days... guess I'll have to break out the old machine...

    Stuck in reverse

    Have you checked here.

It's a repair guide for several machines. I believe yours is included. It may not tell you exactly how to repair your exact problem, but it may help you.

FWIW - the old Singer might be a better machine for what you are doing if you do not need the fancy stitches. Everything I have seen says the old machines handle a broader range of fabric weights and are usually beefier in the drives. Plus you are not breaking her machine! ;-)
    YMMV

The Pfaff has a dual feed and will handle really fine fabric easily. My wifes 1222 has at least 3 million miles on it with one factory rebuild, still goes strong, and is a hammock making dream.

I know this should be a very reliable machine, it was passed down to my wife.

So I don't mind getting it rebuilt/overhauled if necessary.

The "old Singer" looks like a nice 15-91 and should do a good job for you.

Dad had 22 Dry Cleaners for over 40 years....I worked with the people at many of the locations for years....the alteration people showed me how to match the type and size of needle with the thread and the fabric to be used... This is key when you are using fabric like RIPSTOP.....you got to keep it even and tight.... use a good outdoor rated nylon thread and a strong flat needle...

I end ed up using the singer to finish the bug net i as making.

Still have some mods to do my hug, going to do bottom pockets like the net at DIY supply http://www.backwoodsdaydreamer.com/d...mmock-bugnets/. But its been raining so I haven't set up my hammock to check placement.

I'm gong to wait until I fix the pfaff to start a my tarp. For that long ridge line seam will be the dual feed will be helpful.

I have old iron, but if I had access to a Pfaff 1222, with its fabric feeding mechanism, I'd want to use it for lw nylon fabric items, too. Per others, not that skill can't be acquired / developed with other straight-stitch machines.
