    Cold night suggestions.

Going on 2 night trip this weekend. High temps in the 40s with low temps in the 20-30s. Will be using the HENNESSY HAMMOCK. I have a ER blanket, Therm-a-Rest Z-Lite sleep pad and +20 sleeping bag also will have fleece bag liner. Just wondering if this setup will be enough for the temps at night. This will be first time using the hammock in winter weather so just looking for some suggestions.

    Thanks

I would ditch the Z-Lite sleep pad unless you put a space blanket under it between it and the hammock. They don't hold air in a hammock like they were designed to do in a tent. You need something that doesn't breath for this. I thing if you had a better pad, perhaps 1/2 inch thick minimum and at least 20 inches wide (24 would be better) you will be fine. The wider pad keeps your arms and shoulders insulated. You could look into a SPE from Speer, also. Have a good time. Mule

I've used a that model of Thermarest and although it can be made to work, you're not going to like it. It's not wide enough.

    Fleece and cold night sleeps

I always wrap the outer most blanket in fleece - it will lock in the warmth from the others. I spent years camping in NY in winter - any other method trapped cold instead of heat.

Run to walmart or similar for a blue ccf. Also, might be able to get more mileage from the pad with a Garlington insulator - space blankets, trash bags and a poncho. A blue ccf by itself got me to the low 30s before my butt started to get cold.

Make sure to grab the wider thicker blue pad that costs 10 bucks not 7. It's wide enough to protect your shoulders and if you really want you can trim a bit off below the waist to save some weight. Probably the most cost effective insulation in the book and it's very light to boot. Only problem is the bulk but no biggy since you can throw it on the back of your pack.
