    Where to buy supplies

I need to make whoopie slings adn ridge lines for 3 hammocks. How much amsteel do I need and where is the best place to get it? Also, what is the advantage of having more than one color of it? Thanks

    Where to buy:

    http://www.reddenmarine.com/

They have a Hammock Forum Discount use the code: Hammockforum

    A good guide is here:

Color is a personal preference. My kids suspension are all gray. Mine is orange. Some put a different color at the head, but i use my stuff sack to tell me where the head is.

    Hope this helps.

Lawson Outdoor Equipment, Redden Marine, DIY Supply, Whoopieslings.com, AHE, and others.

Lots of sources. Redden and Lawson being the bulk retailers. Redden has HF discount. Pays for shipping and they have price matched in the past.

The smaller cottages, sell smaller quantities and are simply a wealth of info. Just ask.

Thanks! Why is it essential to "know" which end of your hammock is the head end verses the feet end? I feel like I am missing something on that.....I assumed they were the same on both ends....

We usually hang the foot end 6" to 1' higher than the head. Most of the weight is distributed hips down when you lay down. This keeps you from sliding down to the foot of the hammock.

Some also have a built in(WBBB) right or left foot box. If it also has an integrated bug net, you can't flip it over to change the side the foot box is on. This would make the hammock right or left handed, and knowing which end was the head, while obvious, would be important.

As for lengths and diameters, you can ask any of the smaller cottage guys about that. Tell them what you want to make and they can make sure you get exactly what you need. If you really like splicing, it's probably hard to have too much Amsteel, and what you just can't use moves on the For Sale thread well.

Thank you SO much! I completely understand the need to know which end is which now....My daughter just cam in from testing our DIY rain fly and complained about sliding down in the hammock....

A 6' whoopie sling takes ~13' of Amsteel Blue and an adjustable ridgeline will require 12' or more.

    13' x 2 x 3 = 78' and 12' x 3 = 36'............78'+36' = 114'..........get 150'-200' so you don't have to worry about making a mistake and you'll have some on hand for the next project.

My favorite whoopie sling video. Gives good suggestion for length.

I use 12'6" to make one whoopie sling or a ridgeline. For three sets of whoopies and three ridgelines it would take 112' 6".
