Trip report here:

This is the first camping trip I haven't hung in my HH since August, and first ever time on the ground in a Minnesota winter. Air temperatures weren't nearly as cold as the trip Shug and I did in January, but believe it or not I was colder on the ground at +25* than I was at -27* in my HH.

Two reasons:
  1. Not as much insulation - just used my 0F bag and pads
  2. Humidity. The warm days and March sun caused a lot of snow melt, and sleeping on the ground at night it was very damp.

It was fun sleeping under the stars on a frozen river though. Little tough hanging a hammock on snow-covered ice...

Looking forward to being off the ground again on the next trip.
