I would like to see some of those special places you have hung. The one with a view or in some place you have a fondness for and add a description of the area that makes it special. I will go first.
This is one of the special places I have hung my hammock. It is on Montgomery Lake in Quetico Park Ontario and above the pictographs.

Just to the right of the tree my hammock is hanging from is a white moose skull with a nice rack.

Looking at the tree my hammock is hanging from and following a line straight down to the water you will see a small patch of green. About the width of the green to the right of the green is a spot on the rocks that is a little darker than most of the rock that is where the pictograph is.

People rate campsites based on ease of landing a canoe, level places for more than one tent, place to bathe (sand beach), good fishing nearby, air flow in the sleeping area, and a good cooking area. This site rates low on almost all counts but I like it. Most people set up tents behind the rock my hammock is hanging on. It is a steep climb up to the cooking area where I hang my hammock.

Here are a couple of typical set ups in Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario. Pretty much all the back country sites are on or very near the water. The sites is not particularly special but the park is. I've been going to this park for 20 years and have barely scratched the surface in terms of going to different parts of the park.






In the off season you are allowed to camp anywhere as long as you are not within a certain distance from a trail and are not on a designated summer site.

NICE Shots!! I have never used a hammock in temps below freezing. My last trip was a 13 day solo where temps dropped below 40°F. I forgot to pack my under quilt. Just looking at you guys winter shots makes me shiver.

I believe I've posted these before, but they're a fond memory of last year. I went fishing in an area near the mountain range on the border with Norway in mid-Sweden (almost typed north, because that's how it seems to a southerner like myself) last year called Vemdalen. The view from one of my campsites, with the hammock in the trees just behind:


I got to that site by driving my sports motorcycle about half an hour on a tractor trail through the forest.. the feeling of seclusion was immense. The zoomed in view when Mama Moose came for a drink with her little'un:


There were fresh bear tracks near the water too that I saw during the day fishing. No signs of wolves though.

HaHa yep I have been known to pick views from the hammock over wind protection. Having good gear you trust helps.
If it looks like the weather will turn bad I usually have scouted a secondary location.
