    DIY shopping list

OK, tried searching for shopping lists, but seems every list different for different uses. I have tried out and feel confident after a couple of stuff sacks, so feel ready to get on to DIY my own hammock.

I am planning on a gathered end, stretch-sided hammock. As don't know which way I am going to lay, I am planning on putting in holes in all 4 corners. My size is 5'8" and 165#, so from what I can find, any weight fabric will do, and planning on 10'6". I have a Toxaway on it's way, (AHE had great sale on seconds, and was not confident on my abilities to make a tarp). Also got 25' Dynaglide and 25' 7/64" Amsteel coming to make UCR and a structural ridgeline.

So this is my plan list. Can you please critique before I order? Plan is to do DIY gear, so prices are from there.

    Hammock Amount
    Ripstop 1.6 4 yds
    Amsteel ridgeline 12 ft
    Paracord (whipping) 2 yds
    Shock cord (knotty) 4 ft
    Guttermann Mara 1
    Cord locks 2 (already purchased)
    Cost hammock 22.15

    Suspension (Marlinspike toggle)
    Treestrap 1" web 72 in *2= 144 in (or 12 feet)
    Toggles 2
Dynaglide (UCR) 25 ft (already purchased)
    Cost suspension 14.39

    Bug-net (fronkey)
    noseeum 7 yds
    shock cord 7 yds
    cord lock 1
    cost bug net 26.58

I am probably going to use my Thermarest for now (debating on going 1.1 double if there isn't too much difference in sewing with that versus 1.6)

    Thanks.

Three things I can see. First, if you are going to make UCR's out of dynaglide why not just use Dynaglide (or even Zing-it or Lash-it) instead of Amsteel for your ridgeline? Second, if you will be using a pad, a double layer hammock might be better so you can slip in in between layers and help keep it in place. Third, since you are doing everything DIY, I'd order more than you think you need in case of mistakes or in case the DIY bug really hits and you want to make more stuff.

I'll second bubba on ordering extra. You'll want to make some stuff sacks as well, so drawcord and extra cordlocks will be nice to have. Depending on the trees in your area, you might want longer tree straps. I made some 6's, and find them barely adequate sometimes. At the least, make a third one with two loops so you have a backup or extension if needed. Some amsteel or dynaglide dogbones are great to have on hand as well.

Thanks for the input. I put in my order today, awaiting with bated breath. I did double the order of ripstop, but am thinking I will go with a single and make a Poncho liner quilt.
