1.9 is great - the edges my not need seamed (I don't seam up mine) - more of a personal preference.
Here's how I make mine (I make the loops of rope or Amsteel) then just add (or change to) the suspension of your choice:

And buy extra fabric - 4 yards makes a nice 11 foot hammock. I like 11 foot length X 60" width for comfort, but also use 8 1/2 foot X 48" as my packable size.

High quality 100% polyester thread is what you're looking for. Gutermann Sew All is available at local shops like Hancock and Joann Fabrics.

Gutermann Mara 70 is a stronger thread available online.

Of course there are other good brands as well.

+1 on Gutterman thread, and I'm another that did not seam my nylon hammock. I used the entire width and there wasn't a need to seem it, so I don't have to worry about weird stretching on the sides.

Go for your finished length of at least 11 feet, so order extra.

I also did the ends like this, there is absolutely no slipping, no seam sewing needed on the ends either (as long as you cut with a soldering tip). I use mule tape loops on my hammock ends, and seat belts as my suspension from the salvage yard which around these parts is like $4 for a how ever many belts you cut that can fit in a big brown bag....it's a crap load.
