    Hanging at Scout Camp...again

Just attended another week of scout camp -- believe this is my 10th or 11th year at Buckskin Reservation. Took 12 Scouts with us, plus 1 on staff. Got in some fly fishing and caught crappie and sun fish, but Wilbur the big bass eluded me.

Cooked in camp one day. The boys made bacon cheese burgers on the fire coals while the Ol'Goat patrol used dutch ovens to make chicken pot pie and pineapple/apple dump cake .

I've been taking my hammock the last several years and hanging out back of the tents. This year, tried out my PLUQ - still having some problems with the suspension and had a slight air gap on my back. The next day was really breezy and I did a lot of testing and finally got it pulled up to eliminate CBS. Still do not believe it to be the best way to connect the PLUQ to the hammock but it worked.

Was a great week only ruined by having to leave

Photos: 1st two are of my HH; 3rd one is showing a small part of the lake (a deer is swimming on the far bank, but my zoom couldn't quite get there); 4th is the stream formed at the base of the dam

Very nice. I leave in a couple of weeks for Goshen Scout Reservation. Can't wait. It'll be my first full week in a hammock, and will have my PLUQ. .........RR

I took my hammock to Camp FGL with our Troop a couple of weeks ago. This was the best sleep that I have ever gotten at camp!

I just camped with the Cubs last week in the hammock. Next week we will be at Camp Firelands with the Troop. It sounds like we are up to a total of 5 hanging for the week.

That sounds like a wonderful time for you and the boys. Keep up the great work.

For your next summer camp, how about a hammock wheel as a project? They are a total blast to create and you'll be the buzz of the camp hands down.
Happy Trails to one and all.

How is the middle of the hammock wheel supported? This would work great for us in the fall. We have an event that is held out in an open field.

Awesome hammock wheel! If you don't mind, sharing some info. There is a Scout who has the go ahead to establish the first designated hammock sight at Camp Raven Knob. Need help with the spacing of the spars. Could the spacing you used accommodate individual rain fly for each hammock?

    Thanks!

    This begs a question:

With hammocking becoming so popular in scouting, has there been any provision made at the new Jamboree facility in WV for hangers?

When I go to any scout camp or camp-o-ree (CIEC) it still kind of freaks people out that I hang from the trees.

    Hanging at Scout Camp...again

I was the only hammock I saw at my kids Webelo camp this summer. A few if the parents couldn't believe I sleep in a hammock when I told them. I think they were expecting the old rope yard hammock.
