    DIY Hammock (Encouraging words)

I managed to get it done this weekend. Many thanks to XTrekker for the fabric and folks like Knotty for posting such great threads on sewing and whipping hammocks, woopie slings, and so much more that make it easy for the amateurs among us to tread confidently into the DIY world.

Here it is and it is amazingly comfortable.

My final word to anyone considering any, or perhaps all, of the DIY projects shown, talked about or touted on this forum is go for it. It is tremendously rewarding. You will have a great sense of satisfaction and it's a stink load of fun to show off this stuff to your friends and say, "I did that.", and watch their faces as they say things like "That is so cool....I want that." and "How do you know how to do this stuff? That is amazing."

Thanks to all the giants on whose shoulders I stood on to accomplish this. I am gratefull.

Congratulations! I know just how ya feel. I just posted today about completing my fist hammock. It was fun, even got my step daughter to help and enjoy.
The best part was getting in the first time and not hitting the ground!
I instantly took a nap to reap my rewards.
Good for you and best of luck with your next project!

I'm also looking forward to getting my fabric from XTrekker tomorrow in the mail. As of now I'm planning on making channeled ends, but maybe, just maybe I'll do the whipping instead just for something different.

Awesome job on the hammock..Looks pretty comfortable.

Picked up a roll of 30D Marpat Camouflage 1.1oz to make some hammocks for me and few friends. Gonna sell off the remaining yards.
I foresee a 2nd DIY hammock in your future.

It is extremely comfy. It was a suprise to me just how comfy and that my arse didn't hit the ground. Also, nice try XTrekker. I've still got a lot of fabric left so I'll be concentrating on stuff sacks, pillows and maybe a ridgeline organizer for the future. Seriously thinking of stealing the sewing machine from my mom permenantly. I am, after all, her favorite son.

The hammock I made from this same fabric was AWESOME this weekend! I took it with me backpacking in Wilson's Creek, and my friend's hammock ripped. (Apparently, I may be some kind of hammock killer, because I was sitting in it with him went it blew out.)
It was pouring rain, but we both slept in my new hammock, and it did GREAT! Two in a hammock is NOT the way to do things, but it worked. After the trauma of two hammocks ripping out from under me in two weeks, I am gonna stick with the higher thread count hammocks for a while!!

The greatest satisfaction I get in posting DIY instructions is from reading threads like this where people like DaddyDaddy do it themselves and are happier for it. Nice work DD!
