Little Tallahatchie float and hammock hang

A buddy and I are taking our kayaks down the Little Tallahatchie river just north of Oxford this weekend. We plan to put in at the River Bridge boat ramp and float to Hurricane Landing with an overnight hammock camp on Saturday night. I'll try to get back on HF next week and post a trip report along with photos.

Awesome! Look forward to seeing the report and have fun. I just said to my wife this morning that we should kayak the Tallahatchie from the lower lake to the 51 bridge with an overnight stop. Colors should be nice in the next week or so along the river! Have fun and be careful!

    Trip Report

Our Little Tallahatchie River float was a success. We started paddling around 9:30 Saturday morning and arrived at camp 7 miles down river at roughly 2pm. In other words, we took it easy. I bet we paddled less than half that distance. Mostly just floated and took in the scenery. Water level was good other than a couple sandbars that we had to muscle through. Camp setup was a breeze as always. Our ENOs were up in a matter of minutes. Supper was something to brag about. Because we were in our kayaks, we were able to eat like kings. Earlier in the week we went by LB's Meat Market in Oxford and snagged a "Grill Kit." In case you're not familiar, the kit is different every week. Ours consisted of a half chicken, 2 large sausages (they make their own and stuff them with anything you can think of) and 3 thick rib-in pork steaks. We cooked all that up along with some Idahoan potatoes and let me tell ya, we were stuffed. Add in a few beers and a couple whiskey drinks while we listened to the Ole Miss game on the crank radio and we had a recipe for a good time. We had a heck of a time and didn't have to leave Lafayette County to do so. It's a trip we've been talking about doing for some time now and can finally say we did it.

    Really Nice Report

I haven't paddled and camped this way in a couple of years, I need to get the kayak out and go instead of all the walking! Yes, you certainly can dine like a king form a kayak for sure. Glad you were able to listen to the game, hope your team won! Thanks for posting, now I must think about getting my kayak out of the rafters and loaded up!
