Night owl is in the house...
The Tarptent pull-outs are similar to the old WB pull-outs and I sealed the seams on both sides. I actually haven't looked closely at the new WB pull-out style. Is there webbing on both sides? I thought the webbing is only on one side. In this case, I would simply seal the seams on the other side.
Thanks Desmobob and Hutzelbein for your responses. I did front and rear the with thinned Silicon II way. Did the rear multiple coats. The webbing absorbed the mixture like a sponge and dried so that it's hard to tell that it's sealed by looking. Worked like a charm all night last night in the rain. Very happy with the look and performance.
Hutzlbein, the MJ has webbing on both sides but most of the webbing is on the inside in a gull-wing pattern. Thanks again!
All panel pull style tieouts are going to have some type of "reinforcement fabric" on the backside (this is necessary for strength) as far as sealing goes, it would not matter if it's fabric or GGR webbing (which is basically just narrow fabric), the only thing we changed was the shape of this reinfrocement patch and the specific material it was made of. We switched from the round patch to the butterfly shaped patch because it's stronger and doesn't stress the fabric as much when under load. We made this switch well over a year ago so it's nothing new. Method for sealing would be the same for any style of panel pulls....Silicone on the underside of the tarp only, on the stitches only, and as thin as possible and use some force with your finger to force it into the stitches as much as you can.
Good to know, thanks.
