    Newbie Cheesehead

    Greetings all.

After a 18 year hiatus, it's time to start camping again.

I'm starting from scratch, gear-wise and I'd like to give this hammock thing a try.

Never one to dip my toe in the water before jumping in, my first real outing will be a 7 day trip in the BWCA in the last week of August.

Other than that, it will mostly be s24o's for the time being, as work is nuts and I've got two small children.

Get ready for a barrage of questions, and subsequent field reports from the perspective of newbie!

Welcome. I do a lot of quick solo overnighters in Kettle Moraine North myself, being busy also. There's places to get out with limited time if you look hard enough.

Welcome. Headed up to the BWCA the week before you. It's a good place for hammocks, though with my family, we're still on the ground.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I just got my first hammock delivered yesterday...

    Let the games begin!

ErikSaint, keep in touch if you are interested in trying out some tyvek tarps and other nonsense.. I'm just about to order a roll, and there will certainly be surplus.

For sure I will. I haven't picked up my hammock yet. Was hoping to grab one before I leave on vacation Saturday, just don't think it's in the cards. I'm definitely looking towards diy stuff, even scanned craigslist for sewing machines, but I'm known to jump into everything head first.
