    Map with Miles

OK, I hope I'm understanding correctly where we will be paddling because my buddy NoFeather & I have been working on maps & GPS waypoints. Here's a pic of the map with the black dots representing one mile waypoints totaling 47 miles in all. Granted the route is set not too far from shore and if we paddle into coves, and I expect we will, of course the miles will increase.

Also if anyone would like the Garmin waypoints PM me your email and I can send you the file. You'll need to have a KY topo map downloaded for your MapSource or BaseCamp software to view it because most of this route is actually in Kentucky.

    No I shouldn't...

It was a mistake to be looking at this thread. I really want to go. I even have the time. The bad part is I have to pick up my daughter from her study abroad the day after Thanksgiving. A ten hour drive as well! (choice language deleted)

Wisenber-congratulations on your new 'ride'....with your speed advantage we expect a roaring fire when we get to camp. And with that Folbot's cargo capacity none of us will have to worry about fresh water!

Cakes, what we need to know is at which mile marker the Wildlife Refuge begins and ends at....that first day (day after Thanksgiving) we need to get the permits/shuttle and begin the paddle. I'm hoping from Golden Pond/Devils Elbow to the edge of the Refuge is around 5-7 miles then camp. Next day paddle out and around it.

Yes if you compere the mile marked map we made with a map that shows the closure I was getting (roughly measured) 7 miles to the start of the restricted area for first nights camp too. Maybe find a place to camp in Taylors Bay?

Then the detour out and back to LBL would be about 7.8 miles near Cravens Bay then of course we dont have to camp there, we could keep on paddling and make that day a longer day.

Seven miles might be about right that first day if we get a late start. According to the map's legend, it looks like half of Duncan Bay and Smith Bay on the west side of LBL will be closed, so we don't want to wander too far in that side on those either.

Here's the reason for the closure and here's the USFS Map in PDF form that shows it.

Stand by...Working on another map to plot a route around the closure.

I'm slow at this but learning and am taking instruction with software & GPS hoping to get proficient. My class yesterday is what produced these results with my teacher NoFeather, who should get most of this credit! He's watching this thread and wishing he could go but unfortunately can't.

The sad part is that it could probably haul 30 gallons of water and my gear.

Cakes-excellent research! Now if some water caches could magically appear at those camp sites all the better. I HOPE Potneck reads this and Rayne too.
Regardless, looks like things will come together nicely for this one.
Surely will be great campsite/campfire camaraderie.
OK Wisenber, planning on the first 30 gallons from you. Thanks
Just had a thought about your sailing rig...wind coming at us, you tacking out and back, out into the barge lane---be careful.

All you got to do is let me know when, where, and how much and I'll have it there.

1st three pictures are at Taylor Bay (Barkley Lake); next two are Sugar Bay (Kentucky Lake).

Both campgrounds are similar except shoreline of Barkley Lake tends to be mud and Kentucky Lake tends to be gravel which offers many more good options for just pulling up some where and camping.
