It looks like we will be more car camping at Illini SP. I do not believe they have primitive walk-in sites there. So, if anyone wants to come on by later in the day, around 5-6 and do an overnight, we would be glad to have you.

You are right about the walk in sites sorta of
When I hiked the I&M I was going West and stayed in Illini State Park I of course walked in and then just did the self check in at the office(Put money in envelope and filled out reservation card) Never Did see a Ranger or Camp Host
and the spot I had was great Just west of the Toilets and Soda Machines it had about three nice spots to hang within the 1 campsite

I was 1 of Three campers in the whole Park that Day it was October 11th so I am sure you will probably be the only ones there

I would think that a Ranger would want to only allow 1 Hammock in each site since the State Finances are not so great.

I started the day Near Morris, IL and the Bridge made for a last mile that was very hard and tiresome so I slept like a baby.

I wish I could make it , but I will be winterizing my camper this weekend

    HAVE FUN!

    Thanks for the update.
Anyone who wants to hike, just show up at the designated place & time. We are shuttling to the west and walking back east. If you miss us at the shuttle start, just walk west on the trail and we'll meet you on the way eastbound.
    NOAA says
Saturday Sunny, with a high near 59. West southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. (at our backs while we hike)
Saturday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 34.
Sunday Mostly sunny, with a high near 50.

Trying to scope-out all the IL related threads, here, and came across this one (albeit a little late in the game).

How far a hike (time-wise) abouts is it from Gebhard Woods SP to Illini SP?

Curious, too, if anyone's ever trucked it into Starved Rock SP from the IMCT (although their campground really places emphasis on the car part of "car camping" - too many things on wheels for my liking!).
