    Hello from Chesapeake, Virginia

I'm not a hanger yet - still contemplating the "hanging" part. I tour by motorcycle and have wondered what hammocks would be like. I discovered I could buy a good hammock for less than I could buy a good sleeping pad for the tent - and it seems get a better nights sleep. So, I'm here to see how the motorcycle crowd hangs, how they handle the gear and how often they don't find trees. The bike is a BMW Roadster so I'm not going off road, where the trees are. Campgrounds is it unless I opt for an off road machine. So I'll be surfing for those motorcycling campground experiences.

    Hello from Chesapeake, Virginia

There is a mc hanging thread that has some good pictures and discussion. I am not sure that hammocks are cheaper or smaller to pack than tents, but certainly are comfy. Many of the groomed campsites found roadside are tent or RV/camper centric. I found a few things good to have for these types of camps. A dark color tarp is important to block out the light pollution, ear plugs helps with the noise pollution, and a pole and an inflatable pad are useful for going to ground when the camp rules prohibit tying to trees. Of course, getting the hammock geared up for your personal needs is like farkles for the mc! Welcome and enjoy the new adventure.

SlRad, I'v ridden over 150,000 road miles in the last 20 years and hung in every state except ND, Alaska and Hawaii...Only those d---Beemer rallies out in open fields caused problems...but there always seemed to be a few trees someware...Though I have resorted to hangs between a telephone pole and its angled support wire and across the corner of a barb wire pasture (passed on hanging in an empty horse corral in a NTex Car campsite... Too much horse cr-- under foot...)

Less gear to tote than the standard tent camp.

Stop by if you cross the water... always best to call first.
