GoreTex DIY Thoughts and Ideas ... HELP

Okay Guys, I am acquiring 4 military surplus
GoreTex Bivys, and I am having trouble planning
what to do with them .....

These are the full "mummy bag" style bivys,
so that is a great deal of goretex for me to DIY with.

What I need help with, is some of the best ideas
on what to do with this much Goretex.

Let me tell you some of my ideas, and I would like to
hear what YOU would use them to make ....
    1) Use as an Undershield under my hammock
    2) Poncho/GrizzBeak combo
    3) Tarp - Not too hot on this idea unless it
can be dual utility in some manner
    4) OverBlanket for use on nights instead of a tarp
    5) To cover about a foot at the head and foot of hammock
to stop water and wind down the hammock, sort of a
    hammock beak.
    6) Pack Cover/GrizzBeak Combo

I do have some Climashield Insultex that I can layer with this,
to make a more efficient underquilt. But, how would you put the
goretex to work the most efficiently? What piece of gear have
    you always wanted?

Great ideas! I too was thinking of buying one of the many used bivy bags I have seen on Craigslist. Like yourself, though, I wasn't sure what to do with them.

How much does the stuff weigh? The under-shield was my tentative use idea however for keeping ultra light I lean toward 1.1 silynon.

I still think I may buy one and make a seat cover for my car. I do a lot of speed hiking for cardio and get soaking wet in the heat so a Gortex seat cover would do the trick.

Another use I thought may be cool is for converting a larger three season tarp with "add on" Gortex doors. I imagine a Gortec fabric, with a bit more substance, would be ideal for "ad on" winter doors & the contrast between the tarp color and the camo doors might look cool too.

    Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!1

    Rock!! On!!!

Gortex is pretty heavy... maybe sell the bivy and buy some Silnylon?

I'm not too much of a gram weenie......
    but perhaps I should be.

I guess I am looking at Goretex as a fabric that can
do multiple things. I am not sure that I would wear
silnylon. Down here in Texas it is mighty hot, and I
must have something that is breathable.

Plus, I fell in love with Goretex during my time in the
military. To me, there is nothing else like it
