The Carolinas Backpackpacker Chronicles
I'm drawn to the open country. Its where the world makes the most sense. When I put myself out there I always return with something new.
Posted this in the other thread, so I figured I would post it here.
A big shout out to Running Feather and Hangin Burrito for hosting, you guys rock and I really enjoyed the talk and fellowship. Remember fifth Sunday, and five different types of fried chicken, with a dessert table
Carolinasbackpacker, great to meet ya man, and hang out. Hope to see ya in the gorge again one of these days.
FIMB, great to talk and finally meet. You amaze me with your diy skills, and your delicious dehydrated delectably protein shake Seriously dude I gotta get that recipe. Hope to hike together soon and enjoy some fellowship.
Flrider, what can I say? A man that will tote pizzas and calzones over 1 mile into the woods, YOU THE MAN! A close 2nd in rarely being seen in the woods to Bigfoot, the pizza delivery guy Hope to share a trail someday.
Medicineman and poof, great to finally meet up. Hope to spend some more time in convo one of these days. Great to meet up with people who are so genuine like you guys
Sluggie and lump, you two are great people and so nice. Sorry I missed the famous brownies Sluggie. Can't wait to meet up again, and enjoy the piney woods.
Old4hats and Chigger, what can I say. You guys truly inspire me. Knowing each other all these years and still getting out and enjoying the woods. Thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship with both of you and look forward to it again
Berksound, you truly are a very sweet and kind person. You made me and Dave feel very welcome, and for that I can't say thank you enough. Definitely look forward to seeing you again at another hang
Stosh, really enjoyed the hike and talk up to John Rock, and look forward to doing that again. If your ever up this way again, shoot me a pm, and we'll do it again.
Rockdawg, really enjoyed meeting and talking. Thirty years in the military is something I can't relate to, but your service is appreciated and challenges me to do what I can. Thank you for all you have done for our nation, and I would share a set of trees with you any day, even if they are a little too far apart
To everyone else, sorry that we didn't get to stay and get to know everyone else. But we look forward to it next time. God bless you all and look forward to meeting again.
Oh and "Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaave" says hello.
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
Exhibit A:
On the way there it rained for the first few hours, then cleared a bit, on the way back it rained the first few hours then cleared a bit. Arrived home at 1:45PM sunny sky, set up the wet gear to dry. Went shopping came home and the rain was ready to hit. Brought all the DRY gear in the house just in time. Great hang. Thanks all.
As always, a wonderful time with the hanging family.
HB and I would like to thank everyone for making this year's hang a success. We did get a bit of rain but that didn't stop our hammock hanging heroes from making lemons into lemonade. It was great to see old friends, make new friends, and finally put faces to online friends.

Brief trip report:
Thursday - Charles, Chigger, HB, berksound and I set up camp in 'The Enchanted Forest' We were joined by a dozen 14yo girls from a local church group - Our Lady of Perpetual Giggling. The night was pleasant and we were treated to a wondrous light show with no rain.
"Dave!"
Friday - The day started off at 6AM with a visit from THE Goddess of The Enchanted Forest, Sara. She brought along with her, 300+ wood nymphs. I knew right then the weekend would be blessed. More HF members arrived during the course of the day, some before and some after the Army Corps of Engineers repaired the bridge.
"Dave!"
The funniest sight I have ever beheld occurred late in the afternoon. The 'Pizza Delivery Guy' (FLRider), clad in a kilt, strolled out of the woods and into camp with a huge deep dish pizza, three enormous calzones, and a qt of sauce. He also toted charcoal and a grill. He then cooked it all up for us, in the pouring rain. Kudos man!!!
"Dave!"
The night was filled with great conversation. We looked like sardines packed up under the tarp while Mother Nature strutted her stuff.
"Dave!"
Saturday - The Enchanted Forest came back to life. More HF members arrived. So did more rain. The stout of heart hiked up to the John Rock summit, our 'fleet of foot' members FIMB and FLRider took a trail run to Pilot Mountain, and some folks did the whole Cat Gap Loop too. The afternoon was topped off with the second funniest thing I've witnessed in the woods. Neutron hiked in with a humungous watermelon. A big thanks to Sluggie and Lump for taking a ride to the store and hiking in Presto logs and charcoal. Also of worthy praise, berksound, of the Soon to have a Spare Key Clan, made two trips to the parking lot to liberate a Presto log to ensure the evening's success.
"Dave!"
The evening began with the quest for firewood. Chigger and Charles did a masterful job of organizing the wood, and the processing center for that wood, in camp. This was followed by a wonderful food-fest. All manner of excellent food was consumed with fervor. The remainder of the evening was filled with great conversation and merriment. A big thanks to all that provided food for the masses.
"Dave!"
Sunday - Always the saddest part of any hang - breaking down camp. Some folks escaped before Mother Nature blessed us with yet another downpour...and some folks didn't. Another special thanks to those who stayed to help police the camp and tote out the leftover food and refuse.
"Dave!"
That being said, I hope everyone had as good a time as I did
"Dave!" "Dave!" "Dave!" "Dave!" "Dave!" "Dave!" "Dave!" "Dave!" "Dave!" "Dave!" "Dave!" "Dave!"
Definitely Dave

Here's a little trip report vid I and Definitely Dave put together. Didn't get a whole lot of pics with folks, knowing FIMB and MedicineMan would be doing that. The trip through our eyes: the walk in, around camp, hike up to John Rock, and you guessed it, "Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"
(Sorry for the quallity, I am trying to improve;-)
